Whispering Quietly to Myself
Wednesday, March 31, 2004
I'm sexy, I'm cute. I'm popular to boot...
“Who am I? Why am I doing this?” asked the whiney narcissist.

My name is Mark. I am a thirty-year-old boy-man. I don’t shave much. I play computer games in my spare time. I pride myself on being laid-back. I sometimes enjoy playing and/or listening to African percussion.

Despite my habit of rubbernecking in public, I have been married for four short years. We are, of course, still in the honeymoon period. Shalini continues to be a source of wonder, inspiration, comfort and laughter, and I hope to return the favour.

This blog will be an outlet for one more idle mind. Quirky observations that I’ll unashamedly insist are charming and beguiling, evidence be damned. In fact, I’ll call them Q.O.s: cute, no?

QO #1: There is a ‘we’ in Weblog, but in Blog, the ‘we’ are missing.

Brainwave: Hilarious anecdotes will be H.A.s. I predict hate mail.

HA #1. Yesterday I needed to find out if a comedy show still had tickets available, so I called Directory Services and asked for the Comedy Festival’s number.

The operator confirmed with me the number I needed, and then asked “Has the Comedy Festival started already?” I answered yes.

The operator asked “So, how long does it go for?” I told him, a little tensely, it goes for about two weeks. He gave me the number (at last.)

Then he slips in “And is there anything good on?” I was speechless; I just wanted to get off the phone.

Guess this guy got sick of being asked questions all day long.
